Death Valley RV guide

Death Valley RV rental and campground planning guide

Death Valley campgrounds are very different in hookups, booking rules and the months they open. Look at your exact campground and the park's current alerts before you pick the RV.

Checked 27 September 2026

Start with the season and the booking

Furnace Creek is the one park campground you can reserve. The other park campgrounds with facilities are mostly first come, first served when they are open. The weather here gets extreme, so read the current alerts.

  • Furnace Creek is the only park campground in Death Valley that takes reservations. The others are first come, first served when open.
  • Furnace Creek takes reservations for the October 15 to April 15 camping season. Check the current booking window before you go.

Decide if you need hookups

Furnace Creek has a small number of full hookup sites, plus dry sites. Most other park campgrounds with facilities have no RV hookups.

  • The park lists 18 full hookup sites at Furnace Creek. Most campgrounds with facilities in the park have no RV hookups.
  • Furnace Creek has 18 full hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp power, water and sewer. It also has dry sites.

First come, first served options

Sunset and Stovepipe Wells open by season and are first come, first served when open. Check the opening dates and the exact space before you drive a big rig into the park.

  • Sunset Campground usually opens in late fall and closes April 15. When it is open, it is first come, first served.
  • The park lists no general RV length limit at Sunset Campground. Your exact site and current conditions still matter.
  • Stovepipe Wells Campground usually opens in late fall and closes April 15. It is first come, first served when open.
  • The park lists no general RV length limit at Stovepipe Wells Campground, and there is a dump station. It is a different place from the nearby RV park that a concession runs.
